Assad may not have known about Chemical Weapons

German newspaper Bild am Sonntag paper reported on Sunday that Bashir Al-Assad may not have approved the use of chemical weapons allegedly used by Syrian forces on August 21, that left over 1400 killed.

The article cites its source from radio messages intercepted by surveillance from the German naval reconnaissance vessel, the Oker, sailing close to the Syrian coast.  It also states that the messages conveyed that Syrian commanders had been requesting permission from Assad to use chemical weapons since April, however permission was always denied .

Germany’s foreign intelligence agency (BND) could not be reached for comment.
